I first booked this weekend away for October last year and then postponed it until December and then had to postpone it AGAIN to this weekend just passed! We did get there, finally!
Anyway, I’m not talking anything flash. A cabin in a holiday park at Merimbula with an ocean view for a couple of nights.
We left Friday afternoon about 2pm. It was a sunny and warmish kind (22ºC) of day at home however as we approached Nimmitabel (30 kms tops), this is what lay ahead. By the time we reached Nimmitabel, it was 10ºC and threatening rain. The only answer in these situations is to stop at Nimmitabel Bakery and have coffee, a pie and a custard tart.
The weather in Merimbula wasn’t much better however at least it was warmer. It doesn’t matter, right? We were having a weekend time out. On arrival we checked in as you do and the young lady at the front desk, Georgie, was very friendly and helpful. I love that! A friendly customer service person. So rare these days.
Once settled into the cabin, we decided to scoot back into town to buy some provisions but not before the greeting party turned up. These birds were so tame. They obviously get fed all the time. And of course a few pics of the view from the cabin. I requested an unobstructed ocean view and that’s what we got. Don’t mind the sewerage storage tanks….the shits gotta go somewhere!
I have to say that Woolies in Merimbula has the weirdest layout. It took us a while to find everything on the list and the people! People everywhere, probably all having the same problem as we were.
Back to the park, it was time to go for a stroll. The view here is amazing (you know how we love a view) and it didn’t matter that the weather was a little bit inclement.
Back from our stroll, it was time to walk up to the Cheeky Mango (situated within the park so no need for a designated driver) for dinner. We have been to this place a few times and it never disappoints. Great food, new cocktails to try, friendly family atmosphere and Friday night is live music night! Andy O’Donnell (one of the proprietors) and Garry Carson Jones were playing as a duo. We had a fabulous night!
They take requests and I took some video footage of them singing my request ‘Hotel California’ however I decided, because you can hear me singing in the background, I wasn’t prepared to share….lol. I just need to say how impressed we were!
Saturday was a picture perfect day. Not at all expected as the forecast was rain, rain and more rain!
Mr D and I went for a swim in the ocean (it’s been a long time). How could you not swim in this? Clear and beautiful blue/ green water, seaweed free and no Sharks! I think…
Later that day, friends popped down from Cooma for a few hours. Antipasto, biscuits and cheese on arrival, beer and bubbles, a stroll down to the beach all followed by a swim in the heated pool (the ocean had chilled off considerably at this point) and a BBQ for dinner. A perfect day!
At the end of the day, I just needed one more walk to work off all of the consumption. And of course, I had to take more Pics. I can’t help myself.
So there it is! A great weekend. Not without mentions though.
B1 looked after the place. Going away is far from easy when we have the menagerie that we do, so thanks B1.
